Americans Save Belgian Village in Counteroffensive Clash
B Company of the 1st Battalion held a German-occupied Belgian village under heavy flak and fog with a captured Nazi half-track. Pfc. Russell Snow drove the 77 and aided by Pfc. Harold Kelly and Pfc. Harry Koprowski, they silenced flak guns, while Lt. Col. Harrison and C Company men attacked at dusk. A German spy ruse nearly succeeded against U.S. troops before eight enemy infiltrators were exposed, and the battalion ultimately retook the town with tanks and flak wagons destroyed.
