John Longanecker a long‑time Wooster resident aged over 79 died at his home on Wednesday night September 9 1896 after a period of illness. Born in Columbiana County Ohio in 1817 he moved to Wayne County in 1850. A blacksmith by trade he lived with farming later. He married Nancy Long in 1841 who preceded him in death leaving an adopted daughter Mrs M T Boreman as caregiver. A staunch Republican and lifelong Lutheran he was beloved by neighbors.

Three Handsome Monuments For Wooster Cemetery
Alcock and Condid this week added another to the many monuments they have placed in Wooster Cemetery in the shape of a sarcophagus on the lot of the late Judge Charles C Parsons. The memorial consists of three bases and 8 die 24 feet all of polished Quincy Masseranite. The design is handsome and greatly admired. The firm also recently placed a fine monument on the lot of the late John Zimmerman. One of the finest and largest monuments ever made in Wooster is nearing completion in the firm's shop to be placed over the grave of the late Anthony Wright.
