A large blaze at the George R. Louch & Bros department store in Pirrspurg caused about 200000 dollars in damage. Eight people are dead and it is feared others are missing as firefighters battle the flames.
Rev Houston Platter died suddenly of heart disease last Friday in Avondale Ohio. His funeral Monday morning from his mother Mrs J Platter at Beall avenue and Bowman street drew many friends and former classmates. Floral tributes filled the home and the cake holding the urn, with Rev O A Hills and Rev E W Work officiating and music by the First Presbyterian choir. Pallbearers included Prugh Thorne Good Todd Lucas and Flattery. Interment followed at Wooster cemetery.
An interesting Farmers' Club meeting April 25 at the home of D S Tintsman featured a bountiful dinner. Miss O Cracken recited, D R Firestone spoke on tile drainage, and Mrs Bera Lytle addressed schools then and now.
The World reports Russell Kopé, son of R. A. Kope clerk of the northside city court of Kansas City Kansas, was injured while attempting to climb into a passing wagon at 29 Ann Avenue. He was wedged between wheel and wagonbed, the wheel had to be removed to free him, and doctors found his left shoulder dislocated and his body badly hurt.
Maysville doctor and local notices recall John B Crosby, age 81, who rode an old mare toward Applecreek to fetch mail Thursday. A deep snowbank halted progress, the horse reared and Crosby fell. He and the horse plowed a beaten path onward amid heavy late April snow, Crosby noting he never saw such late snow in years.
A stranger arrives in Mayville with a staged appearance and checks into a hotel. He quickly joins a night of card play, winning money from locals and leaving the crowd in disbelief as gambling moves through day and night. Rumors say he emptied purses and lured more victims with flashy bets.
