Wooster Council Debates Tax Bills and Oil Wells

The Wooster City Council, with all members present except Mr Long, debates a proposed bill attributed to Hon M J Carroll to raise the general tax levy by three mills for five years for debt service and city operations, while a contrasting bill would let the levy back bonds for improvements. Officials argue Wooster needs no legislative authority to raise taxes, review the treasury status, and postpone any action on the bill. A petition seeks bonding up to $10,000 to drill for oil or gas, with discussion and calls for securing right of way before action. The meeting also addresses street openings, police staffing rules, and sewer and street paving finances.
