Housekeepers Club elects officers at June meeting
The Housekeepers' club met June 4 at Mrs. Ajael Davidson's home for an instructive session and elected five officers: President Mrs. Bixler, Vice President Mrs. White, Secretary Miss White, Treasurer Mrs. Tintsman. Next meeting July 2 at Mrs. Floyd Gehman’s house with a varied program including readings and talks by several members.

Maysville June 9 Caleb Brown in poor health. A R Johnson of Homestead married recently spent days with his sisters before a wedding trip west. Daniel Rieder Sr founder of the village died June 2 1908 aged 87 years 0 months 23 days. Funeral held with large attendance and interment at Fredericksburg cemetery. Five Men Killed by Lightning Near Sterling
John Shook, John Winkler, Wm Redman and Prof C Fisher of Rittman schools were struck and killed by lightning about noon Tuesday while repairing Redman’s barn three miles east of Sterling. They carried a timber struck by lightning and the shock killed the first three instantly. Fisher died later. The lightning set their clothes on fire and Means, the contractor nearby, was badly shocked. Clear Carver in Lodi was also struck and killed. the horse he rode perished.

University debt drive expects $10,000 more before Cleveland offer
President Holden reported Tuesday that $10,000 more is expected to be secured before Cleveland’s offer to liquidate university indebtedness. He noted one donor from Youngstown raised $1,003.80, bringing the total to about $40,000 by year’s end. Strenuous efforts will continue for ten days, with Cleveland Presbytery offering to cover a year if enough is found to cover the other year’s debt. Holden called the task tough sledding.
