Mrs. Charles Bott of Applecreek protests her husband Charles Batt who has allegedly eloped with a Bakersville widow and married in St Louis. Coshocton reports him as a young manager in Akron and the Bott family, with three daughters, seek legal action for bigamy while tracing his movements from Coshocton to Bakersville and on to St Louis.
A Stark county group pursued a stolen horse through Akron to Canton where Peter Barnhart claimed the mare and buggy. Alva Jolliff, arrested in Mt Vernon for a prior horse theft, tied to Welsh and Barnhart claims through a chain of thefts, with officials noting Jolliff’s erratic behavior and a past gas-line intrigue in Mansfield.
The sun eclipse on Sunday June 28 was visible in Wooster from 8:85 until about noon. Three fifths of the sun’s surface appeared obscured and the sky resembled rain. Shadows looked strange as the clouding seemed to quiet birds while citizens watched through smoked glass.

A 1908 letter from Major General G F Elliott invites able young men in Wayne County and the Seventeenth District to seek appointment as second lieutenants. It lists age 18 to 25, height at least 5 feet 6 inches, weight minimum 183 pounds, and solid education. Applicants must meet mental physical and moral standards and may apply by October 15, 1908. The pay for a new second lieutenant is about 1700 dollars annually.
