Sermon Urges Stand Against Local Evils in Wooster

Suit Over Kauke Estate Alleged $2500 Note

Mrs Ida Grossenbach of Wooster filed against C W Kane administrator of John H Kaуe estate claiming about 2500 due on a note plus 4000 owed for education of children from a settlement with the elder Kaуe in the Van Wert hardware partnership. She asserts life insurance of 2500 and sums placed with Kaуe that were to finance education. she says a book of accounts was turned over and later lost by the administrator. Ohio Accyteline Gas Company Formed at Columbus

A new firm named the Ohio Accyteline Gas company formed in Columbus by C. A. Long, J. C. McClarran, W. R. Barnhart Jr., Lovett, Parrish and others. They state no factory is planned yet, aiming to place acetylene gas plants in homes and consider factory construction only if cheaper material can be produced than purchased. The note includes a brief ad for Ely's Dream Balm and a druggist price.

City Council Proceedings On Street Repairs And Assessments

City Council met with most members present to address street conditions caused by gas company repairs and sewer connections. Capt J B Taylor urged repairs along tracks and across the city. A motion directed the clerk to notify the Board of Public Service to require repairs by gas companies and others. Ordinances on frontage assessments for Gus Hunlacker and George A Clapper were read for second time and referred to committees after objections overassessment.

Burglary Fear After Late Night at Afinat Store

Thought of burglars by W. and Barnard from the Afinat store sparked a late night search on North Bever street. They joined Jack Weber in checking the residence, finding drawers and doors open but no items missing. A Sunday report blamed a little daughter for leaving doors ajar.

Capt Forbes Alcock received a special invitation to bring the Canton Wright Patriarchs Militant to Columbus for a prize drill during the state fair. Despite little prior drilling, Alcock believes the Canton could win if chevaliers enter the contest.

Massillon Fire Destroys Frantz Livery and Barns

A blaze at Wm Frantz’s livery in Massillon destroyed the barn area early Monday, fatally burning Lawrence Lyne who died at Mt. Airy hospital. Forty five horses perished, with total losses around 75000 dollars as 80 animals were housed in the basement and most escaped before flames cut off exits. A banker offered 1000 dollars for the horse’s rescue, but all efforts failed and 44 other horses perished in the blaze.

Chief Levner reports two men held in Fort Wayne

Chief Levner said W. E. Barrey and Arthur Brokeshire, both listed as from Wooster, were in custody in Fort Wayne Ind. charged with loitering during a weeklong visit seeking work. The police noted their reputations for honesty were not in doubt and expected their release after Tuesday morning hearing.

At a Monday Board of Education meeting in Wooster Township, Charles Zaring resigned as clerk due to moving to Orrville. Fleming Fisher of South Market Street was elected to fill the vacancy, with Fisher expressing pride at the unsolicited appointment. Young optician missing charged with misuse of mails

B W Corti of Chagrin Falls, who came to town to run a local optical business, is in trouble for sending letters to customers at nonstandard rates. He vanished after refusing to settle debts, leaving unpaid bills and raising questions about guilt. Friends and a roommate James Commins relate how Curtiss spent time chasing customers rather than collecting payments. Government officials may pursue his arrest.

Fire at Wooster Shale Brick Works

A Sunday morning fire at the Wooster Shale Brick Works was confined to a drying bed. Workers on night shift discovered and extinguished the flames before causing major damage. The cause is uncertain but suspected to be natural gas leaking from a tunnel. Chief Kingsley was notified but fire department had limited water supply for this plant.
