A jury awarded Miss Alice Weaver 85 000 in a five hour deliberation over damages from a May 1894 accident on North Bever Street. The suit claimed the city allowed a hitching post to obstruct the highway causing injury when a carriage struck it. The city denied obstruction and argued use of street for building materials. Motion for a new trial was overruled. Separate matters noted include Carver v Sidle partition fence and Austen v Yater proceeding but continued. Judge Taggart presiding.
The Associated Press reports from St Louis on Aprald Sylvester Scovel a Cleveland Cuban correspondent for the New York World, marrying Miss Frances Cabanne before departing for Greece as a war correspondent. The ceremony surprised guests with few relatives aware, and Scovel planned to sail from New York the following Thursday to join the campaign with dispatches from the front.
