George R. W. Battis, longtime Boston Chamber of Commerce flour inspector and prominent Mason, died at his son’s home in Everett. He was 79, born in East Boston, served on the old Common Council, led local politics, and held Winthrop cemetery post. Survived by daughter Mrs. Charles Bennison and three sons Melville, George, and Walter Battis. Funeral with Mason ceremonial at Winthrop cemetery followed All Souls Unitarian services.
