Military Night At Crystal Bay Lodge

Crystal Bay Lodge I O F held a military night at Odd Fellows hall on Thursday. State Guard members attended in uniform and Senator John E Beck gave a patriotic address with David Belcher speaking on the State Guard. A musical program followed with refreshments. Eight members attended. Russell A Lang chaired the committee. Refreshments were prepared by Mrs Russell A Lang and Mrs George Baxter.

The President has appointed the Winthrop and Revere exemption board to pass upon conscription exemption claims. Members are Judge Charles J. Brown, William H. Barter, and Dr. Willis G Bond of Revere.

Red Cross Work Persists With Ready Supply Line

The work committee led by Miss Anna Newton reports strong activity this week across all lines. Miss Newton and Mrs. Alice Power stocked the work room with handkerchiefs towels tray cloths laparotomy leggings surgeon helmets soldiers helmets surgical shirts pajamas and convalescent robes. Eight sewing machines will keep busy and needle work awaits many hands. A donation arrived from the Ladies Association Winthrop Spanish War Veterans. The knitting department will operate only three days weekly in July and August Monday Wednesday and Friday.

Homer Rodeheaver Dined With Campaign Party at Cottage Park

Homer Rodeheaver choir master for Billy Sunday campaigns and a party of eight were hosted by Harrison D. Dockeray at the Cottage Park Hotel Tuesday night. The hotel orchestra played campaign hymns including Brighten the Corner as the group dined. Rodeheaver fished salt water off Winthrop earlier in the day and spoke highly of Winthrop.

Winthrop Public Safety Committee Seeks Immediate Subscriptions

The committee thanks previous subscribers and urges new gifts to fund war services. In this national emergency, subscriptions are needed to support Winthrop resources and the local machine gun company without duplicating government supplies. Send checks to Harry W. Aiken, treasurer, Town Hall, Winthrop, with a request for broad household participation.

Class Day and Graduation for 1917 Pupil Groups

Under overcast skies with a shower the Class of 1917 held Class Day at Ingleside Park with a play The Fairest Spirit and gifts for all. The Winthrop High School graduation for 99 pupils followed at The Winthrop Theatre with a Liberty Bond gift, attendance records, and diplomas presented by Frank F. Cook.
