Town Meeting Votes on Sewers Bridges and Playgrounds

Town meeting in the former high school hall draws 31 citizens, rising to 50, as Moderator Davison reads the warrant. Delegations from Senator Bagley and Representatives Beck and Casassa are welcomed with a copy of the Winthrop sea wall resolve and pen used by Governor Foss. Articles approve sewer construction costs and a settlement of Jennie D Williams vs the Town, plan for a Belle Isle bridge, playground supervision funds, and Playstead construction, with Playstead funding indefinitely postponed citing land ownership issues.

Memorial Day Observed by Veterans with Parade and Banquet

Civil and Spanish War Veterans observed Memorial Day under clear skies decorating graves and performing duties. A banquet followed by the Civil War Veterans for the Spanish War Veterans and auxiliary groups. A band concert opened the day, a parade to the cemetery, and an oration by Hon. John E. Beck. Gifts included a silk flag presentation and funds for veteran quarters. Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address was read at the cemetery and monument.

Plans For Celebration Progressing Rapidly In Winthrop

The Fourth of July Association met with seating taxed at the public library hall as committees report progress. Parade leadership by Eugene Cronin forms, with two bands, militia detachment, naval brigade, soldiers from Fort Banks, and numerous floats promised to draw a large crowd. Fundraising letters target equal giving to personal celebration costs. Receipts issued for all contributions.

Beulah Lodge Rebekahs Host Supper and Entertainments

The Rebekahs held a social supper in Wadsworth Hall with a fine minstrel show by Beulah Lodge of Lynn. Mrs Ella J Swint led the supper committee and proceeds support the home lodge contingent fund with typewritten programs prepared by Miss Hattie Remby and entertainment committee members Emma Childress Annie Baxter Helen Bangs Lydia Collins.
