The Water Board asks Winthrop citizens to vote on a 40000 bond issue to extend mains and install meters for the water system. They argue meters will reduce taxes by cutting Metropolitan Water Board charges and cite needed extensions on Ingleside and Point Shirley among others.
At a public hearing last Monday the Board of Selectmen heard two remonstrants refuse to release the town from damages if Locust street grading proceeds. Water Board noted pipe relaying would cost hundreds, not funded this year. A separate hearing Wednesday approved two new footways and a townway, with abutters releasing land and plans to seek citizen approval at the next town meeting. Augustus Poring pledged 500 toward road work. the town would add 250. Harold W. Orcutt was elected town solicitor to align with new by laws.
The Knights of Columbus will hold their first fall meeting on Wednesday.
Superintendent J R Dunn leads crews saving about 400 feet of water mains from Sartler Road to Thornton Station area. Remaining 1000 feet to be laid next week with connection to Beachmont line planned in ten days and a water meter to be installed. daily consumption figures noted as higher than Boston levels.
Harold W. Orcutt of 160 Somerset Avenue named town solicitor by the selectmen. Dartmouth 1900 graduate, studied law at Boston University, admitted to Suffolk Bar in 1903, with prior service and favorable community ties.
The Helping Hand Home in Roxbury took its destitute Jewish children on a Wednesday outing hosted by Mr Harry Guttermay and guests. Over seven children attended enjoying morning bathing luncheon and an afternoon hotel entertainment followed by carriage rides. They wore white hats and displayed cheerful faces.
