Winthrop Coaching Parade plans big floats August 17

The committee on floats led by Sheldon W. Cook reports preparations for a grand parade on August 17 with hotels and lodges entering floats and yacht clubs showing interest. Funds are flowing, route details and official program to be released, and entries welcomed from Greater Boston car owners.

Port Captain T E Evans Named for Fore River Quincy

Made Port Captain Captain T E Evans of the High lands appointed port captain of the Fore River shipbuilding company at Quincy to supervise trial trips and assist in care of property in yard and afloat. Evans, a well known Boston shipmaster, previously captained the tug boat Confidence of the Boston Tow Boat Company and is known across the Atlantic seaboard.

Governor Guild Visits Winthrop on government wharf

Governor Guild arrived aboard the Lieut. Bumpus at 11.80 on Shirley street government wharf. Winthrop police and Regulars stood on duty and at attention during the visit.

Fort Banks Visit by U S A Officers Reuters

Governor and Capt Howall U S A and Chief Buffington were driven to Fort Banks in one automobile. A second vehicle carried other fort officers with Mr Haskell escorting. After inspection of the fort lunch was taken with Gol Davis and Chief Buffington dined with the other officers.

Lawn Party Raises Funds for Winthrop Association

The Winthrop Improvement Association hosted a lawn party and cake and candy sale at the Deane Winthrop House. Guests received by first vice president Mrs W D Allen. volunteers managed cake, candy, fishing pond, ice cream, and a paper doll chance. Proceeds near $50 will fund association work. Open house continued daily with tea for visitors and many Old Home attendees.

Cliff House Hosts Military Guests This Week

The Cliff House welcomed officers from the 5th Infantry M. V. M. and other guests including Major W. C. Butler Captain O. H. Robbins Lieutenants E. H. Dorr A. R. Geodhill E. B. Pratt and more from Plymouth Hingham Melrose Boston and Charlestown. About 80 couples attended the Wednesday dance before a delay caused by the Fort Heath attack.
