A Babson report from Wellesley Hills says leisure time activity has grown to a $100 billion annual U S market and is expected to reach $250 billion by 1975. The field spans sports goods, clothing, photography, media, travel, hotels, transport, and related industries as tourism and winter activities rise.
The industry survey notes $4 billion sports goods market with $250 million for golf and $25 million for tennis gear. Boating shows 8.5 million boats and $3.15 billion in boat related commerce. By mid decade expenditures may reach $4.5 billion as personal income rises and leisure time expands. Competition among firms in the sector remains intense.

Babson ranks several leisure names as strong picks including Gladding Corp Questor Corp and Warnaco with growth in fishing gear toys camping and sporting goods. Gladding expands via acquisitions to marine electronics and textiles with rising earnings. Questor owns Spalding Reach and Wright & Dixon and enters education toys and auto parts. Warnaco shows solid sportswear lines under Peerless Hathaway Puritan and White Stag with expected sales gains.

Mrs. Ben S. Bardin, 79, died at West Texas Medical Center Abilene at 2 15 a m Tuesday after several years illness. Survivors include two sons five daughters three sisters three brothers twenty two grandchildren twenty two great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends gathered Wednesday of last week for Ira McNeill's funeral. Attendees listed include residents from Ballinger Abilene Roscoe Tuscola Sweetwater Plainview Hollis Okla Dallas Roscoe San Angelo Three Rivers Three Rivers Gordon Bronte Bronte etc. The group spans Texas towns and Oklahoma, reflecting wide kinship networks.
Donald L. Simpson, son of Mr and Mrs R C Simpson of Winters, graduated from Texas Technological College with a bachelor of science in civil engineering. He was on the Dean's List for four semesters and served as ASCE secretary for two years. He now works for Chicago Bridge Iron Works in Baytown and is married to Ann Lewis of Houston.
Don Minyard field representative for the San Angelo Social Security Office schedules October visits to Winters. He will be at the Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday October 8 and 22 from 9 30 a m to 11 30 a m. People may file claims obtain information or conduct other SSA business during these sessions.
Savings bonds in Runnels County for August totaled 7635 dollars with year to date at 59388 dollars as 19 percent of the 1969 goal. Texas statewide August sales of Savings Bonds and Freedom Shares reached 15376241 dollars, up 6.8 percent from August 1968.
Gov. Smith appoints Charles D. Mathews to the Texas Board of Insurance and designates Ned Price as chair of the state agency. He also selects Reynaldo Ferrer Luna and Frank Randall Nye Jr. as judge and district attorney for the new 299th judicial district covering Starr, Duval and Jim Hogg counties. Senate confirms all three. Additional appointments include Jackson B. Smith Jr. and Wallace Harland Miller to Houston domestic relations and juvenile court benches, with James R. Ray of Plainview joining Smith's staff to assist the new Committee of Human Relations.
