The Blizzards of Winters Hi meet the Clyde school team at Ashley's Park this afternoon at 4. Crowds are expected as local businesses close from 4 to 5 45 for the game. Placards invite fans to the sidelines to help Keep the Win in Winters.
F W Heckler, 62, died last Sunday at the country home of his daughter Mrs Paul Haubt. He reportedly shot himself with a shotgun placed between fence pickets after an apparent mental derangement. The family found him upon return home, having been dead several hours.
The Parents-Teachers Association invites all parents to a reception for teachers tonight from eight to ten o'clock on the lawn of the First Baptist church. In case of rain, the event moves to the church basement. Refreshments will be served.

Eight ladies from the Home Builders Sunday School Class of the First Baptist church visited Mrs. R L Mosely last Wednesday to present a framed picture. In a light moment she was revealed as Mrs J N Key’s capsule the class shared cake and good wishes as she moves to Plainview for a new home.
Curiosity runs high as Ford announces improved cars. Touring models recently arrived at dealers but limited supply and quick sales kept many watching windows. Dealers Winters expect full arrival of all new open and closed body types next week as showrooms become popular. Jno W Norman and Miss Nettie Norman of Killeen visited brother Harold Norman then returned home Monday.
Mrs Roy Powell departed Wednesday to Santa Anna for a tonsil removal procedure. The trip was planned as a routine medical visit with expected full recovery.
Last Wednesday at noon the Thorobred Cottonbreeding Industries of Winters hosted about two hundred guests, agents, and stockholders for a grand barbecue and get together. The event featured a fine meal, cigars courtesy of H O Jones, and praise for the breeding block seen as the prettiest cotton field by many attendees. W. S. Galloway led the company in plans for an annual affair.
A large Winters chamber of commerce banquet drew 200 business leaders from town and country, stressing co operation and a robust development program. Speakers urged an ample water supply, better roads, a modern hotel, cleaner streets, improved post office, and stronger rural cooperation to advance the community.
The school opened last Monday with the largest enrollment in its history, six hundred fifty students overall and two hundred five in high school. An ambitious program featured speakers and musical pieces, with awards promised to top students and encouragement to pursue excellence.
The Jewish New Year 5686 begins September 19 with the Day of Atonement on September 28. Winters merchants will close shops and hold services in the Elks Hall with plans noted in the Enterprise. Local visitors Will Sutton and Clytie of Killeen assist Norman-Smith Dry Goods for opening day preparations.
The executive board met at Dr and Mrs Dixon home to map a coming year. They discussed the membership drive scheduled for late September or early October and planned a reception for the faculty this Friday evening. The P T A aims for a standard of excellence with wide citizen support in Winters.
Mrs Iva Lavada Tatum wife of W B Tatum died at the family home in Pumphrey after weeks with typhoid fever at age seventeen. Interment followed at Winters cemetery on Wednesday evening with a note of faith and comfort for the bereaved.
On last Monday after opening exercises the First National Bank held an open house for school children. About six hundred fifty pupils attended with many parents. Punch, pencils, pens, and book covers were distributed by bank staff. Miss Gladys Neely plans to attend McMurry College in Abilene for the coming term.
A surprise party honored Mother Gregory on her seventieth birthday hosted by Mrs. C. W. Grey. The event featured pink and white decorations, ferns, a white iced cake with seventy candles, and cakes and ice cream for family guests including Van H. Piercy Labenske Patterson Tanner and others.
