State affairs debate on minimum wage and teacher pay bill

In Texas committee hearings this week the State Affairs Committee examined House Bill 156 creating a State Minimum Wage Law and heard that it could raise product costs and reduce employment. The speaker also urged removal of a controversial property tax provision attached to House Bill 300 affecting school funding and urged passage of a teacher pay raise without the tax change.

Rain brings relief to local farms in March

Farmers in the area cheer two good March rains. Sympathy is offered to families in Winters and Ballinger for the deaths of George Shef field and Pete Wessels. Ballinger and Winters residents visit relatives, while ill health and hospital stays are noted for Vesta Nichols and Bennie Hambright. Local visits include Hambrights, Traylor, Carter, Campbell, and Faubions with domino games among couples.

Tinney Lawler Repeat Marriage Vows at First Methodist

Sylvia Jean Tinney and Clyde Leonard Lawler renewed their vows on Saturday March 22 at 6 30 p m in the First Methodist Church. The ceremony featured palm backdrop and yellow white floral arrangements. Attendants included Sally Spill as organist, Tommy Lawler as best man, and cousins Wayne Smith and Larry Lawler as ushers. The bride wore a peau de soie gown with Chantilly lace and carried white carnations atop a white Bible. They plan to reside in Junction after both graduates pursue further studies and work with the Texas Highway Department.
