Winters Hosts Largest Fourth of July Crowd in 149 Years

Thousands filled Winters for the 149th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Cars crowded streets and picnic grounds north of town while the Winters band played and M. G. Olsen of Waco spoke to the crowd about the Ku Klux Klan. Barbecue meals were served at noon on two long tables with pickles bread and cake.

Farm and Ranch Editor Visits Winters Country

Field editor T. C. Richardson of Farm and Ranch Dallas toured the city last Wednesday with Lehmberg, Runnels county farm demonstration agent from Ballinger. Richardson called Winters County outlook promising and praised the Enterprise’s coverage, saying the town appears mighty good.

Clem Wyatt Kicked by Mule While on Job Duty

Clem Wyatt of Winters Ice and Fuel was kicked in the chest by a mule Monday morning while on duty. He sustained serious injuries but is said to be doing nicely and expected to return to work soon.

Death of Sanford E. Flynt

Sanford E. Flynt died at the family home on a Friday in July. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church by Rev. H. Stephens and burial followed in Winters cemetery. He was twenty two and had lived in the area all his life. He leaves a grandmother Mrs Flynt and one brother.

Hudgens Family Visitation Recounts Fort Worth Visit

C. L. Hudgens and family of Ft. Worth are in the city for a week with relatives. Merrick Spill, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Spill, has been ill but is reported improving after a week of illness.

A Main Street shop rises near Krauss Dry Goods, two brick blocks south of the mattress factory prepare for J E Cleveland and Winters Laundry, while Thorobred Cotton Seed Industries’ warehouse nears completion after material delays. Old Settlers Reunion Two Days at Valley Creek

Circulars advertise the Old Settlers Reunion on July 15 and 16 four miles north of Hylton on Valley Creek. The event features free camping fishing swimming parades speeches dinners rodeo races fiddlers contest dances and rides with prizes and entertainment throughout both days.

Runnels County Fair Purchases Ballinger Property

The Runnels County Fair Association through C A Doose Co bought all of block 59 in Ballinger. Motely says the land will enlarge Fair Park for carnival grounds and other needed uses. Prof A H Smith returned from Dallas after accompanying his brother H Lynn Smith for an operation and reports his brother is doing nicely.

Revival Services Open Air as Church of Christ Holds Summer Meet

The Church of Christ in Winters starts its annual summer revival next Sunday with Brother Dno T Smith of Denver as preacher. Smith, formerly from Tennessee and Texas, is a noted Gospel speaker. The open air tabernacle on Main street invites all in Winters and nearby areas to attend with seating and fans provided. Services are daily with a morning session from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. and an evening gathering at 7:30 p.m.

Back From the Davis Mountains Trip

Mr and Mrs L E Low return with son A M Gideon and Dallas relatives after a two week journey through the Davis Mountains and a camping stretch at Junction Texas with Miss Sallie Upshaw and Leslie Sanford of Holland.

The Lions Club 10 members met last Tuesday at the clubhouse. President Holcomb returned from the National convention in Ohio and talks by Behrens of Abilene were featured. The club planned a vacation in August and Rosubur declines resume in September.

Farmall Tractor Demonstration Draws Crowd at Davis Farm

Last Tuesday a crowd gathered at Grover Davis’s farm to see a Farmall Tractor demo by Vanelt Hardware Co. A McCormick Deering Farmall representative assisted, and visitors from far and wide praised the tractor, marking the event a successful showcase of the Farmall.

Rev. Gid Jd. Bryan of the Methodist church assists in the revival at Wineskde begun Saturday night. Attendance is good with several conversions. A notable number from here expect to attend the gathering.

Lankford Returns Home After Ardmore Trip

J Q Lankford came back early in the week from Ardmore Oklahoma where he joined his mother for a relatives visit. He traveled through Greenville Denison and Fort Worth with other Texas stops during the trip. He was met at Ardmore by his brother J Fr Lankford and family who are visiting in the Aubiford home.

Runnels County Club Encampment Set for July in Ballinger Park

The Runnels County Boys and Girls Club encampment is planned for July 16 and 17 at Ballinger City Park by the Colorado River. The event, organized with Chamber support, offers free accommodations, bathing and dining facilities, concerts, and a diverse program led by Miss Eula Key and C W Lehmberg with county agents from nearby counties. A large parade and extensive demonstrations, including dressmaking, basketmaking, dairy cattle judging, and wool sheep judging, will accompany two days of activities open to the public.

Fair Directors Expand Territory of Runnels County Fair

Mr. Sid Neely reports directors at Ballinger meeting voted to enlarge the fair's territory to include Coleman Concho and Coke counties. Other business included granting $10 to each community exhibit for arranging and displaying the exhibits.

Bradshaw lets contract for new high school building

Bradshaw Texas July 7 a contract for erection of a 15000 high school building was let to Stubblefield White contractors of Abilene. Work to start this week and be finished by November 1. Architect is H J Bradshaw of Abilene. The one story structure will have six classrooms an auditorium a laboratory a library and an art room.

One-Armed Golfer Makes Hole-in-One On Chicago Course

Chicago, Il July 6. Harry Luckett, a one armed golfer and member of the Kickapoo Country Club of Peoria, scored a hole in one at Evergreen Golf Club on Saturday. He previously aced shots at Memphis in 1914 and at Decatur, Hl, last year.
