Runnels County youths excel in the Beef Carcass contest at the Southwestern Exposition and Fat Stock Show in Fort Worth. Ricky Dean of Wingate won Reserve Grand Champion for all breeds junior steer calves. Rex Marks of Winters claimed champion Shorthorn carcass. Fred Wilde of Ballinger earned champion Red Angus carcass and Judy Bartel of Ballinger the Reserve Red Angus carcass. Other placers include Antilley, Wilde, and O'Dell in various Angus and Hereford categories.
The Winters High Blizzardettes defeated Merkel 55 47 Tuesday night to remain atop the district standings. They hold a 6 0 district record with Merkel and Hamlin tied for second at 4 2. Carla led with 18 points and Debra Carroll added 15.
Voter registration must be completed by Friday January 31 to participate in 1969 elections. Winters sub-office staff report steady turnout and remind residents they may register for immediate family members only. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday for those not yet registered.
Max Bumgardner retiring athletic director of Angelo State College will be principal speaker at Winters High School football banquet Saturday evening February 1 in the school cafeteria at 7 p.m. The event is sponsored by the High School Cheerleaders and the Winters Boosters.
Winters VFW Post 9193 and its Ladies Auxiliary gave a 75 dollar check to Winters Elementary School to buy fit strips for the American Heritage Program. Mrs. W. L. Collins, Auxiliary treasurer, presented the gift, which principal George Beard accepted for the school.
Tickets for the Winters Chamber of Commerce annual banquet are on sale. The February 28 event in the school cafeteria features principal speaker James L. Hays of West Texas Utilities Public Services Department. Tickets are $2.50 and obtainable from chamber directors or any board member.
A measles vaccination clinic for Winters Elementary School children ages up to 10 and preschoolers will be held in the school cafeteria next Tuesday February 4. Grades 1-6 receive shots 1 30 to 3 pm and preschoolers 3 to 4 pm. Lions Club sponsors waive fees. registrations must be signed by parents.
Winters residents will receive the new larger telephone directory this week. General Telephone Company of the Southwest manager Jack Goss notes the book includes more names Yellow Pages and up to date information. He advises saving old numbers and transferring frequently called numbers to the new book.
Mrs. J. C. Belew of Wingate and Mrs. Verlon Reid and Sherry of Abilene joined Mrs. Gayland Robinson Leanne and Lynette of Winters at the wedding of Miss Edlanda Vinson and Wayne Betts at the First Baptist Church in Hereford. They then spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Carlton Dobbins.
