Bob Loyd and Gene Wheat, owners of Bob Loyd LP Gas Co., Inc., were appointed Shell Oil jobbers with a ten county sales area including Runnels Taylor Nolan Concho and Coleman counties. Loyd moves to Abilene to head the territory office while Wheat remains in Winters to run the local office. Both bring decades in the industry with Loyd a 23 year Humble Oil commission agent and Wheat over 17 years in the business. Shell Oil Co. operates globally in pipeline production and marketing.

Winters Chamber of Commerce members were urged to register to vote before January 31 and to encourage others to do the same. Woodrow Watts, new president, told attendees at Huffman House the 1969 year includes city and school elections and possibly other districts, stressing the voting franchise. The Third Monday luncheon introduced the new president and urged members to bring guests to the February 17 event.

Winters City Council Purchases Heaters and Clearance Lights

On Monday the Winters city council approved buying six gas heaters for the Community Center now under construction and six airport clearance lights for the landing strip. The Community Center exterior is largely finished with interior work to start immediately and completion expected in a few weeks.

Worship Time Changed at Presbyterian Churches

Drivers Needed for Operation Eddie in Winters

Volunteers are sought to drive Eddie Little to the West Texas Rehabilitation Center in Abilene two or three times weekly for concentrated treatment. Drivers depart Winters to reach the Center by 9 a.m. on appointment days and return him to Merrill Nursing Home. WTRC attendants assist him from the car in Abilene. Call Mrs. Little at the Nursing Home or her home to volunteer. Eddie Little, a former Rural Mail Carrier, has been bedbound and in a wheelchair at the Nursing Home for months after a stroke.

Run nels County Farm Bureau leaders will attend a statewide joint legislative membership conference January 22-23 in Austin sponsored by the Texas Farm Bureau. Hugo Vogelsang says the event opens the 1969 state and national legislative program and reports on statewide enrollment for new members. More than 400 county leaders are expected. the purpose is to clarify state and national agricultural issues and discuss implementing FB policies.
