In 1933 Runnels County officers led two raids at a local residence, seizing an 80 gallon and a 50 gallon still and charging the owner with operating equipment for intoxicants. Winters store added new implements with G E Nicholson as local manager. The Lions Club and Red Cross aided hospitalized invalid girls and distributed flour and clothing. Sam Behringer truck delivered free goods from Ballinger. A local man admitted to burglaries in Abilene. The American Legion hosted the Chamber of Commerce banquet in its new home. Ma Ferguson proposed a 3 percent sales tax. Bradshaw Post Office was robbed of 230.83 dollars.

In January 1943 Presbyterians held a dedication service with Rev. Gibson of San Angelo delivering the sermon. Local women led Red Cross garment work as first quotas were finished and second set to begin that week. Bond sales for Runnels County were set at 65 700 for January. Universal Ban on pleasure driving due to gasoline shortages. J Hodge named Runnels County Scout Chairman of District 7. Winters hosts Annual FFA Livestock Show with milk fed calves and other exhibits. Texans led all in Army enlistments. Tire inspectors appointed in Runnels County including Floyd Sims Alvin Benson Roy Young John G Key and S T Anderson of Winters.

Stooksberry longtime San Angelo barber dies at 82
Hubert Lee Stooksberry a Winters native and longtime San Angelo barber died at home Sunday at age 82. Born February 2 1880 in Ladonia he lived in San Angelo since 1935 after moving from Winters He married Ona Anderson in 1901 and celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1951. Surviving are wife two daughters two sons a sister two brothers and 13 grandchildren 3 great grandchildren. Pallbearers were local men. Services were held Monday at Johnson Funeral Chapel with ministers from Immanuel Baptist and First Presbyterian officiating. Burial in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
