Red Cross war time classes and service notices 1943
In January 1943 surgical dressing classes sponsored by the Red Cross began with an order for 16 200 sponges and dresses to ship by January 25. Seventy seven men received military service calls on January 25 as announced by the Runnels County Selective Service Board. The rationing board warned only a few days remained to apply for more mileage. Band Mothers sponsored a contest for junior and senior band members with a trophy for the winner. Dedication services for the Presbyterian Church were planned for Sunday January 24 with speaker and program to be announced.

Mrs Maggie Ward 89 Died in Bronte Hospital
Mrs Maggie Ward 89 of Wilmeth Community died at 8 a m Sunday in Bronte Hospital where she had been a patient since June 30 1962. Funeral services were held Monday at Spill Memorial Chapel with Rev Virgil James officiating. Interment Wilmeth Cemetery. She was born February 12 1873 in Parker County near Weatherford Texas and moved to Paint Rock in 1920 and Granbury after marriage to D F Ward who died in 1926. She later relocated to Wilmeth with sister Mrs H W Wright. Survivors include two sisters four stepchildren and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers listed.

James E. Glenn, a farmer and groceryman, died Saturday at 3 40 a m in Winters Municipal Hospital after a home stroke. Service Sunday at 2 p m at Spill Memorial with Rev. Ray Elliott. Burial at North View. Born July 30 1877 in Cooke County Texas he moved to Chickasha then Runnels County in 1907 and ran a Winters grocery before retiring. Survived by wife Ouida Tomlinson Glenn a son Truman San Antonio two sisters Flora Yoachum Borger Callie Browder Grapevine and brother Albert Glenn Childress.
