Winter irrigation tips and cattle scab alert in Texas
County Agricultural agent C. T. Parker Jr warns yards and gardens suffer in dry winter periods without irrigation. Water every four to six weeks, protect shallow rooted and container plants, and water early in calm, dry days. He notes winter moisture loss can cause lawn failure and tree stress. Also, cattle scab outbreaks in the High Plains prompt a state and federal quarantine on 34 counties. Treatment uses toxaphene or lime sulfur dips, with a 28 day slaughter withholding after toxaphene.
