Supt A H Smith addresses Winters patrons ahead of September 7 opening. High school enrollment is set for Friday and Saturday before openings. credits rise from sixteen to seventeen with activity credit possible. New courses include Spanish 3 Chemistry Sewing Bookkeeping Typewriting and Shorthand. Faculty assignments listed with degrees and positions.
Due to confusion from State Department of Education notices on exam dates, a special examination will be held at the County Superintendent of Education office on Saturday August 29. It offers a final chance to those seeking to qualify for permanent certificates under the old law. The test is not for elementary or high school certificate applicants and no prior registration is needed. R. E. White, County Superintendent.

Bro. A. H. Clark returns from several weeks away to lead regular services at the Church of Christ next Sunday. He references strong meetings at Rising Star and Tipton Oklahoma with large crowds, noting Tipton hosts a sizable orphan home for eighty four children. Clark also enjoyed a cross country trip to Snyder and Chicago during the absence.
M Cohen buyer for Winters Bargain House returns from wholesale market centers with a complete line of dry goods ladies wear and men s wear. He reports buying more than before and promises big bargains for the coming season. The note ends with a call to support Winters school and a pledge of service.
J C Watts reflects on his two years as secretary of the Chamber of Commerce while touring 15000 miles through the Ozarks and into Texas Oklahoma and Missouri. He notes irrigation, cotton, cattle, zinc and coal mining, transport growth, and a growing sense of West Texas Winters prospects.
Mrs. S. E. Hunt departed this morning to visit her daughter Mrs. Carroll Spangler in Wichita Falls. A. Krauss left Thursday for Miles to help at his store as new goods arrive daily.
Chas Mosely and family from Wichita Falls visit his parents Mr and Mrs J H Mosely. Miss Iva Modesett of Bartlett Texas has joined First National Bank and began her duties last Thursday.

Secretary Motley of the Ballinger Chamber of Commerce and County Agent Lehmberg visited Winters on Wednesday with Bert E. Low, vice-president of the Runnels County Fair. They conferred with Secretary Farrow of the Winters Chamber of Commerce about securing community and individual exhibits for the fair on October 13 through 16. Farrow and Lehmberg will canvass area farms in the coming days to boost exhibits.
The Winters State Bank confirms Western Union will keep the Winters office for six more months from July 1 1925 with a push for local patronage. Correspondence shows McAdams urges a local campaign via the Chamber of Commerce. Also notes Jewel Rushing becomes a stenographer for Nance Brown Motor Co and local visitors in Abilene.
G. E. Seagler and family returned Monday from Tennessee Colony in Anderson County and spent time with relatives in East Texas.
Krauss Dry Goods Co. owner A. Krauss came back from the northern markets with the best and most complete line yet. He bought for Abilene Ralls Miles Post and Winters and reports the largest quantity ever purchased, receiving some price concessions. Goods are now being shipped as fast as they arrive.
Mrs R L Labenske and her daughter Mildred with Mrs J W Labenske were summoned to Austin last Thursday due to the death of their niece.
About thirty members competed in the First Winters Golf Tournament at the local course. Eight in the first flight shot under 50, twelve in the second flight under 60, others in the hard flight. Winners: First Flight Slaughter, runner-up Haynes. Second Flight Davis, runner-up Kilpatrick. Third Flight Carl Hensley, runner-up Jno G Key. Ten prizes donated by Winters businesses. grand champion Slaughter won a Golf Bag.
Under Winters Chamber of Commerce auspices a Winters Band concert and community program will be held in Drasco Friday night September 4. The event promotes neighborliness through round table talks and mutual exchange of ideals among nearby communities.
Mr and Mrs P Gardner returned Friday from wholesale markets in St Louis where they bought new merchandise for the Gardner Bros store here and attended style shows. They were assisted by Mrs Gardner and sought popular prices, buying more heavily than before while previewing the latest ready to wear millinery footwear menswear and piece goods arriving daily for their customers.
