American forces join 675 British and 200 Japanese under General Dorward to defeat Boxers six miles southwest of Tien Tsin on Aug 19. The allied army killed over 800 Boxers, captured 64 wounded prisoners, and burned the village. American casualties were five, Japanese six, and British none.
Pekin is reported to be under foreign control with looting advancing. French and Russian flags fly over key imperial areas while the Forbidden City remains protected by international accord.
