Young revelers in fanciful disguises gathered Saturday night at the Episcopal Female Institute. They crowded the porch, entered calmly, sang and danced in a parlor, and left after lively hospitality from Mr. Smith. A reporter watched from a lightning rod as a pocketed thief of a man’s coin disappeared.
Friday evening Buck Wilson struck Peter Jackson with a brick near the Hart Hotel, cracking his shoulder blade after a dispute with bystanders. Wilson intervened by throwing the brick and fled the scene.
On Saturday a boy threw a lit firecracker at Master Herbert Haines. The squib struck the boy and embedded between skin and clothing, causing a painful burn on Haines's back.
Miss Sallie Glaize sister of Mr Henry Glaize on east Piccadilly Street tripped on a carpet Saturday night and fell injuring her mouth and arm during a walkway incident on the floor.
At Winchester's B and O station on Christmas night a disruptive young man, in the company of two women, hurled insults at another passenger near Piccadilly street. The exchange escalated with profanity as bystanders and firemen listened. no police were visible.
J R Langley 70 and Dr Asa Wall 78 veterans of Richmond Soldiers Home fought after Christmas drinking. Langley cut Wall's throat with a pocket knife. Wall's injuries are not serious. Langley jailed to answer for the assault.
Will Rough St. Messrs. John and Lewis Seal Frank Haymaker William Spurr Charles Grim Lewis and Pete Miller leave this morning for the Back Creek region to rough it furnish their own grub and return after several days to chronicle the grand hunt.
William Carpenter and his father Wes Carpenter reported a gray horse with saddle and bridle stolen from their stable near Thatchers Spring in the early hours Saturday. The entry was made about midnight, and no trace of the horse or equipment had been found by morning.
A telephone message reports large scale ice harvesting at Jordan's White Sulphur Springs. Ice measures four to five inches thick and about four hundred tons have been cut.
This week’s church Christmas programs feature Methodists, Lutherans, and other congregations with solos duets quartets and choruses. Notable scenes include a six piece orchestra magical selections addresses and Christmas treats for children. Admittance is free across venues.
Mr. T. M. Bantz received a box of violets on Christmas evening from Rev. James Battle Avirett of North Carolina to be laid on the grave of Mr. Rouss’s son at Mount Hebron.
The nativity service at Christoplenphecy began at 11 o'clock Saturday with a decorated church and illuminated altar. Rev. Nelson P. Dame gave a twenty minute sermon from St John and announced offertories for disabled clergy and orphans. Sacred Heart held High Mass at six AM with a choir under Mrs. Lynch and a printed program in Friday's Star.
Mr Michael Ryan aged over 80 died at the home of Mr P Finnigan near Stephensons this morning. He was born in Ireland and lived here for years. Survived by daughters Mrs Maggie Fitzpatrick of Baltimore and sons John and Michael Ryan. Funeral from the Church of the Sacred Heart on Wednesday at 10:30 AM with interment in Catholic Cemetery.
County Clerk Cartmell issued licenses this morning to E. B. Orndorff of Shenandoah County and Miss N. Virginia Himebright of this county and to Wm Hodge and Miss Ida Venable. Clarence Stottlemyer and Miss Ida Teets, both couples from this county, were married by Rev. Dr. B. K. Cox this afternoon.
Saturday evening Joseph Palmer was attacked by five countrymen near the fair grounds. He fought back but suffered a severe blow to the left eye with a stick of stove wood, resulting in a badly bruised eye.
