Fort Loudoun Seminary Graduation Evening Highlights

Fort Loudoun Seminary concluded its school year with the first graduating class. A brilliant program featured operatic solos, piano ensembles, and a Jamestown Ter-Centennial march. Miss Mary Browning Keller and Miss Dorothy Carr led demanding pieces, with several other pupils showing strong promise.

Decoration Day Observed at National Cemetery Winchester

The twenty first annual Decoration Day program at Winchester National Cemetery begins at 2 pm with prayers, songs, and a memorial address by Rev W D McCurdy of Martinsburg West Virginia. 2,098 known and 2,382 unknown Civil War graves receive flowers by the Ladies Memorial Association led by Mrs S F Gar on. An expected large gathering will attend the ceremony with veterans and families. Prof George Shepard will lead singing.

Confederate Veterans Gather for Richmond Reunion

The remaining Confederate veterans march toward Richmond for annual reunion. Gen. Stephen D. Lee arrives by special train as Turner Ashby and Stuart camps dispatch members to attend the event and unveil monuments to Stuart and Davis.

Old Bill de Buz Dropped Bis Bell

The famous belled buzzard known as old bill de buz was sighted in Clarke county. It flew over dropping its neck bell as the wire wore away. Mr. M. S. Grubb heard the tinkling Friday and found the bell in the yard, later showing it to his brother Mr. William Grubb who visited Berryville.

Decoration Day Holiday Schedule For Banks And Post Office

Tomorrow is Decoration Day a national and legal holiday Winchester banks will be closed and officers will have a day off The local post office will observe holiday hours with carriers making one delivery and collection at 10 am no window service at night general delivery and stamp window open 11 am to 12 pm and 1 pm to 2 pm no rural free delivery service.

Sheep Die asprowling Dogs Attack Flocks

Reports from county sections tell of dogs roaming at night killing and injuring sheep. Hunter Stine near town shot one attacker and seeks damages from the dogs owners. At Burnt Factory J D Wright others pursued and killed one dog after a similar assault.

Edmund Pendleton Joins State Library Board

A Richmond special says at the State Board of Education meeting last night Edmund Pendleton was elected to the Board of Library Directors replacing C. V. Meredith whose term ends July 1. Pendleton, a Richmond lawyer and editor of the Richmond Journal, is believed to oppose keeping Librarian Kennedy. If so Kennedy would be ousted as the board after July 1 would stand three to two against him. Maurice M. Lynch attended the session.
