The Mulligan Post G A R held ceremonies at Winchester National Cemetery with Rev W D McCurdy speaking on citizenship duties. Ladies decorated graves. music by Prof George Shepard. prayers, ritual, and songs marked the event in memory of about 4500 soldiers buried there.

Young Widows Home Destroyed Near Winchester
The humble home of Mrs. Carver widow of Mr. Raymond Carver near Burnt Factory east of Winchester was destroyed by fire about 8 oclock last evening with all contents. Mrs Carver and her two children are being cared for by neighbor Mr W L Poston. The fire started from an overheated stove pipe and the house could not be entered. No insurance. Poston raised about 25 dollars in a collection and Mrs Carver seeks clothing and money aid from the public.

Lineman Heyer Dies After Fall From Pole in Alexandria
Frederick J. Heyer a Southern Bell telephone lineman from Richmond fell from a pole at King and Lee streets in Alexandria while stringing a wire died instantly. The accident was witnessed by fellow linemen and residents. coroner Dr. S. B. Moore ruled no inquiry needed. Heyer had recently worked in Winchester.

Art Exhibit at the Episcopal Female Institute Opens
An art exhibit accompanies the institute's commencement week with cadet displays in pencil drawings watercolors pastels and charcoal. Major Zerkel Dr Don Donaldson and Miss Gertrude Ehe r Meyer directed the event which features junior and senior declamations and a studio tea for the art class. The academy examinations begin today and the term ends June 1.

Big Mack Breaks His Own Records at Central High Meet
Cy McDonald from Winchester set a new mark in the hammer throw with 124 feet 21 inches breaking his own 131 feet ? record. He equaled the shot put and later broke the discus throw with 116 1/2 feet surpassing the 99 foot best.

The Evening Star will insert a full-page ad starting Saturday to inform the Valley of Virginia and Cumberland Valley residents about Confederate Memorial Day June 6. The Frederick County Anti-Saloon League held its annual convention at Stephens City on May 27 with President Cave Clevenger presiding. Resolutions urged passage of local option measures, tightening retail sale controls, extending Mann law provisions to distilleries, and stronger penalties for illegal liquor. Mrs. Chiles won a district medal in a post noon contest, then officers were elected including President Cave Clevenger and Secretary Joseph M. Snapp.
