Captain George W. Kurtz and General Turner Ashby Camp members rode the 7 o clock Baltimore and Ohio train back to Winchester after a grand reunion in Richmond. They praised the hospitality in Washington and the parade honoring General J. E. B. Stuart. The veterans viewed the event as the largest UCV gathering to date and noted trips to Norfolk and the Jamestown Exposition.
Postmaster receives a letter from J A Miller of Wheeling West Virginia reporting Hiram Ellenberger died in Cumberland Maryland on April 23. It asks if his son and daughter aged about 15 to 20 reside in Winchester. No information available.
The article reports a severe cold spell causing a local decline in martins. It describes the bird as insectivorous and valued by residents for its chatter and pest control. The cold season hindered insect life, leading to starvation and many dead specimens found in the area.

Whitacre Va June Braithwaite wife of Bode S Braithwaite died Tuesday afternoon after an illness of 18 hours with nervous disorders aged about 45 She leaves her husband four children Bessie Fred Lola and Lillian and several brothers and sisters including Jacob William Edgar Braithwaite and Mrs Al Noland Mrs Alexander Adams Mrs Levi Fries and Mrs Dearie Estep She was a daughter of the late John Keller Funeral held at 10 oclock this morning with friends meeting at the house.
The Shenandoah Valley Academy closed its session with cadets leaving for home or staying until June sixth. Professor and Mrs James Lovett hosted a large reception and dance in the academy gymnasium with flag decor and a long music program beginning after nine and lasting nearly four hours.
Prominent Winchester residents Edward McFarland and Albert Henry were found intoxicated at a local scene last night. They attempted to seek residency in Hagerstown but were refused hotel lodging. They stated intent to become respectable citizens and offered to reform. Local police returned them to custody and they pledged to improve their conduct.
Mrs John Graham of Newville Pennsylvania is visiting Mr and Mrs W A Baker at their Water Street home.
The remains were laid to rest at the Old Baptist Church with interment performed by Funeral Director J. Shanholtz.
News from Moorefield West Virginia reports a movement to establish an electric light plant for town and private lighting. Water power will be used with several power house sites near the town. Local residents with capital back the project, and progress is likely.
Alvin Haines son of Ellis and Mrs Haines and Ada Mauzy daughter of George and Mrs Mauzy married yesterday at the United Brethren Church parsonage. They will reside in Frederick County where the groom farms.
Swimsley orchestra led a ballroom evening with a pretty stone display and girls in gay dresses contrasting with cadets in full-dress uniforms. Thirty to forty couples danced while many guests filled the room throughout the night.
Mr. Alpheus Hi Hardy of Boston Massachusetts visits Winchester Valley for Confederate Memorial Day, staying with Mrs. D B Conrad on Water Street. He served in a Massachusetts regiment during the Civil War and later led the Forty first Veterans. He admired the South and desires to attend Confederate Memorial Day in Winchester.
Democratic politician Robert Lee Snapp of the Davis district in Shenandoah County is spending a few days in the city.
The Charlottesville local option election resulted in a dry victory by a 40 vote margin with high turnout and orderly polling. A praise meeting at First Methodist Church featured Robert Clay of Bristol Va who helped unite Black voters for the dry side.
Invitations issued for the marriage of Miss Mary Elizabeth Gearing of Winchester to Mr. R Garrett Spiker formerly of Woodstock Virginia now of Washington. The ceremony will be at the brides parents home at 3 oclock Tuesday afternoon June 18 with a reception to follow and an extended tour planned. They will be at home after July 2 at 636 Park Road Washington DC.
The Star publishes the Confederate memorial exercises program at Stonewall Cemetery with extensive notices. The paper declares a short holiday for office employees and notes that cemetery events and “Sixth of June” items will be detailed in tomorrow s issue.
Friends in Winchester learn of the illness of Rev Guy A Luttrell pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church Williamsport Maryland who has gone to Maryland General Hospital for treatment and possibly knee surgery from an injury during a college football game He is accompanied by his physician Dr E H Gaither and has been ill for months ending with bed rest

Miss Margaret Nelson Reese became the bride of Alfred Miller Hancher at The Orchards near White Hall in a ceremony conducted by Rev. Dr. J. H. Lacy. The couple, longtime neighbors, will reside in Hartford Conn after a wedding trip. Attending were relatives from Winchester and White Hall as well as members of the Leafe and Kern families.
Victor Lee Clarke and Mise Redellia Dehaven were married yesterday afternoon at the Market Street M E Church parsonage by Rev. J. W. Beale. The bride wore white silk and carried bride roses. witnesses were Ollie Mason F G Dehaven and J L Shanholtz. Advertise your summer goods.
