City Fathers Hold June Meeting on Finances and Light Plans
The Common Council met at City Hall with Vice-President Shirley Carter presiding. Treasurer Kinzel reported May receipts of 9 024.25 and disbursements of 2 471.04 leaving 6 563.21 on hand. licenses totaled 5 985.70. Water pumping figures and coal use were given, fines collected were 80.30, and bills totaling 18 were approved. A gravity water system proposal was rejected as not cost effective. Street and water line projects were approved or discussed, lights petitions were mostly lost, and a shade-tree climbing ban for linemen was enacted.
Shenandoah Valley Academy Cadets Drill in Winchester Streets
The Shenandoah Valley Academy cadets under Major Zerkle paraded from the academy on Water street to City Hall Plaza in light gray-blue coats and white trousers. Spectators witnessed strict marching and drill maneuvers as the corps, led by cadet officers, displayed high discipline and training. Principal Prof. James B. Lovett congratulates the academy on its success as a military and training school.

Miss Blume Weds George Moore in Fredericksburg Ceremony
George Douglass Moore and Miss Louise Blume, both of Charles Town, were married yesterday at Fredericksburg by Rev. Dr. Robert F. McBride. Moore is a lawyer with Cleon Moore. Blume is daughter of Mrs. Vicanor Conrad Blume of Charles Town, formerly Lexington, Virginia. Samuel J. C. Moore and Charles N. Campbell accompanied the couple. They will live in Charles Town after a brief bridal tour.

Knocks From Wagon Injure Newton Mellwee and Doctor
Newton Mellwee, son of Charles Mellwee of Galveston County, was badly injured when a brake lever knocked him from a wagon during wood hauling. A wheel passed over his leg, both bones broken, but he improves on crutches. Dr F T Pine of Gainesboro was kicked by a horse in his stable causing limb bruising with no broken bones.

Atlantic City Man Weds Minnie Baylis in Quiet Union
Minnie M. Baylis of Winchester married Louis L. Starry a prominent Atlantic City businessman today at 1.30 pm in the United Brethren Church parsonage with Rev. Wine officiating. There were no attendants. The couple left for New York and Philadelphia for their honeymoon and will reside in Atlantic City where Starry runs a flouring business.

Fair Weather Expected for Winchester Confederate Memorial
Veterans from many towns in the Valley of Virginia plan a June sixth march to Stonewall Cemetery in Winchester for Confederate Memorial exercises. The Weather Bureau predicts fair and cooler conditions tonight and Thursday likely drawing one of the largest crowds ever seen. The parade forms at 11 on Market Street and proceeds to Piccadilly, Main, Water, then the cemetery. An oration by Rev. William P D Smith is planned, with a dedication for headstones and markers to follow, concluding with a benediction by Rev. George S Bowers.
