Mrs. Sarah A. Shearer of Carper's Valley died at 6:30 this morning after a years long battle with heart trouble. She was 32 years a Methodist and leaves husband Philip and four children Sewell William and Clarence plus Minnie. Surviving siblings include Polk and James Carper and sister Mrs. Arthur Grim. Funeral Thursday at ten from her home to Mount Hebron Cemetery, Rev. D L Reid to preach.

Summer Hops at Opequon Inn Start August First
A series of summer evening hops will be hosted at Opequon Inn Jordan Whi Sulphur Springs with the first event on August 1. Refreshments will be served and townspeople from Winchester Berryville Martinsburg and nearby areas are invited. Management asks for early notice by letter or telephone with numbers of participants and carriages the day before. Supper will be served from 6 to 9 pm and after 9 o'clock. Accidental Arm Amputation Near Winchester Flour Mill
A 23 year old worker Benjamin White was badly injured at Harry Keckley's flour mill one mile south of Winchester while starting a corn crusher. His arm was crushed between shaft and belt, leading to amputation of the arm at mid forearm after doctors arrived.

Paul Kern, a Van derbilt University student, won the inter collegiate declaiming contest in Lexington May and earned a gold medal set with diamonds. Death of Miss Mary Carter Shrouded in Mystery
Mary Carter eighteen daughter of Samuel Carter died yesterday near Lake View after a period of illness. Doctors doubt poison as the cause since death from poison would have been rapid though she was sick for nearly a week. She had been at Charles Barrow’s home when she died. Dr Goff Miller found her unconscious on Wednesday morning and she died yesterday morning without an ante mortem statement. She was paralyzed from the waist down on Saturday and the fever was given as the cause of death. Funeral held at Red Bud Church at 2 PM with interment nearby.

Baltimore Youth Wounded Testing Cat Rifle
Lawrence Sellman a ten year old from Baltimore visiting his aunt Mrs. J C Van Fossen in this city nearly caused a tragedy by testing a new cat rifle. He held his left hand over the muzzle as it exploded injuring his hand slightly. Dr W S Love dressed the wound and the boy resumed playing by late today. He is the son of importer Mr James Sellman of Baltimore.

Serious Injuries From White Post Camp Meeting Seat Collapse
During a Sunday storm at the White Post camp meeting Miss Vernie Renner of Chambersville was crushed when a tent seat collapsed. She, daughter of Joseph Renner, was injured and taken for care after the wreck.

Stole Wheels From a Buggy in Strasburg
William Sibert a young man from near Strasburg was fined five dollars and sentenced to four months in Woodstock jail for stealing a set of buggy wheels from Stickley Bros agricultural implement warehouse. He mounted the wheels on his vehicle and painted them bright yellow to disguise the theft.

Juvenile Wild West Robbery in Winchester Feels Real

Ernest Henry Dies at 22 After Prolonged Illness
Ernest L Henry, 22, son of Jackson Henry, died at his father’s East Germain Street home. Long illness from consumption led to dropsy of the heart after years of coughing and two lung hemorrhages.
