Fire Destroyed Sperry Barn in Middletown Area
A massive Sunday evening blaze destroyed John Sperry’s barn, corn house, and granary near Middletown, damaging the dwelling but saving the house. Loss estimated at 1500 dollars with 500 dollars insured. wheat, binder, mower, drill, wagon, harness, and livestock perished or burned. Fire origin unknown. Frank Sperry raised the alarm, and neighbors aided before wind shift eased danger.

On July 4, 1852, the Methodist Episcopal Church Sunday School held a social at Tidball grove. Captain J. I. H. Baker led singing and has since supervised the local Sunday school singing with only about a dozen absences in fifty years. Electric Storm Ravages Frederick County with Fiery Furies
A severe electrical storm lashed the Frederick area with heavy humidity and fierce winds. In Winchester lightning struck a large elm and an outbuilding, while at the Baltimore and Ohio office flames briefly flared before being controlled.
