After a strenuous Fourth of July in Winchester crowds enjoyed a grand parade and a dramatic sham battle. The day featured a large Tuscarora Tribe demonstration from Martinsburg, solid fire brigade presence, and only two arrests, both soon released. A Martinsburg Red Man prisoner faced dismissal, and cheers rose for Winchester's mayor as festivities concluded.
A bronze tablet commemorating Lincoln Garfield and McKinley was unveiled at New York City’s West Side Y M C A reading room. Gifted by Peter Winchester Rouss and crafted by E St John Matthews the piece features the presidents’ likenesses and a Bishop Potter inscription praising noble souls.

Survived by two daughters Mrs. Horn and Miss Maria Candy. Member of the Presbyterian Church. Funeral tonight at 7 30 and interment in Romney, West Virginia, cemetery tomorrow at 10 a.m.
The Hagerstown City Band, with the First Hose Company, serenaded Rev. Dr. J. P. Hyde Capt. Geo. H. Kinzel and Mayor W. C. Gratchen in Hagerstown yesterday evening. Mayor Gratchen regrets missing the performance at home and notes the band’s music would have entertained him. James A. Green secretary of the Pennsylvania State Firemen Association known as the fire horse of the Middle States was in Winchester yesterday. Squire Green is one of the best known firemen in the country and represented the Cumberland Fire Company of Carlisle at the firemen's convention. He is a friend of the Sarah Zane boys. visitors included Harry W. Hyde of New York and W. Y. Hyde of Boston.

Tomorrow includes an 8:30 a m Friendship Meeting at the Presbyterian Church and a 4 p m men’s meeting at Christ Church. a public conclave closes at Market Street Church. The Friendship Fire Company hosted a banquet for the Rescue Hose Company of Feyser West Virginia at Mrs Kate Woodward’s home on South Main with speeches, a gallery of hospitality, and a funded supper with ice cream and cake.
Yesterday afternoon the First Hose Company of Hagerstown Maryland marched to the residence of Rev Dr John P Hyde at Peyton and Brad dock streets and serenaded him. Captain Augustus Heimel delivered a brief tribute noting the kindness shown years ago when the company was quartered with Dr Hyde. Hyde thanked the company as he valued the memory and the picture they gave him. The band closed by playing Maryland My Maryland with Hyde noting his Virginia ties.
Intelligence from Memphis announces the marriage of Davis B. Wills of Charlottesville to Miss Eda Skerrett of Washington D C on a Thursday night in Memphis. Wills, son of Dr. Fred M Wills, plays for the Chickasaw Baseball Club and formerly played first base for the Louisville National League team. Skerrett has long been with an opera company and visited Gen Thomas R Rosser near the University last summer and fall.

After a march and parade near Staunton Virginia Sergeant Elliotte Peace of the West Augusta Guards fainted from heat. He was cared for at Mr T M Bantz’s residence on North Market street where he recovered after several hours. He was on the verge of sunstroke and in serious condition at one point.
The Friendship Fire Company asks all members and the public to donate flowers for decorating Gen Daniel Morgan's grave. The group will assemble at their hall tomorrow at 8 40 oclock and request donations left at the engine-house or Capt James M Haymaker's. This marks the first time the grave is honored in this way and organizers seek a successful tribute.
Harry Waller of Berryville near Winchester tours Pennsylvania displaying extraordinary strength as "Young Sampson." At 26 he stands 5 ft 4 in and weighs 122 pounds yet he drives nails through pine boards bends bricks tears cards and snaps a chain of 800 pounds by chest expansion while handling 150 pound dumbbells.
The funeral services for the late John W. Boyd were held at his home near Winchester. Rev. D. L. Reid preached the sermon, the procession went to Mount Hebron Cemetery in Winchester, with Rev. A dance for visiting firemen militia and Red Men gave delight at Keller's Fall last night. Out-of-town guests departed by 10 30, so dancing started early with many in attendance.
