A Washington dispatch reports about twenty four million Panama canal bonds opened for bidding at the treasury last Saturday have been purchased by national banks. Individuals bought around one million. The average price nears 103. Banks receiving bonds include the National Exchange Bank of Commerce in Norfolk with two hundred thousand dollars and the Shenandoah Valley National Bank of Winchester with two hundred thousand dollars.

Former Slave Horace Green Dies at 72 in Cedar Grove Area
The funeral for Horace Green a respected former slave aged 72 was held this morning at Cedar Grove. He died Saturday night at his son Charles Greens home opposite the Fair Grounds. Rev Curry led services with burial at Cedar Grove in this county. Green once belonged to Geo Ward and later lived on George Mars Millers farm near Cedar Grove. He resided here with his son in recent years and left a widow who had a memorial window placed in the colored church. Relatives live in Whichester and Pittsburgh.
