Fres Frost of Berea College met President Roosevelt in Berea and urged a tree planting on the campus of the new colored school during a February 12 visit to Kentucky for the Lincoln centennial. Roosevelt replied his trip would be hurried but would try to plant a tree if time allowed, to honor the event.
Four children of J. H. Wampfler, a dairy man east of Alliance, perished when a fire destroyed their home last night. Wampfler himself was seriously burned with other injuries reported. The tragedy occurred in the dairy family residence, with local responders rushing to the scene.
Col George Torney is appointed Surgeon General of the army to succeed General O'Reilly in Washington D C. The announcement was released on November 13.

Laporte Ind Nov 13 The Lamphere murder trial opened with State's Attorney Smith outlining two key facts: Lamphere set fire to Belle Gunness and her three children per Indiana law this would constitute murder in the first degree. Coroner Mack testified as the first witness.
The body of Harvey Watterson son of Henry Watterson of Louisville Kentucky will be sent home for burial accompanied by his widow. The young lawyer died on the nineteenth floor of a Wall Street building in an accidental fall. The coroner confirmed death as accidental and Henry Watterson was too ill to travel for the funeral.
Three cars of the New York Central's eastbound Twentieth Century Limited were derailed at Blossom Road crossing near Rochester New York. A broken rail caused the accident but none of the many passengers hurled from their berths was seriously injured. The train's speed was about 25 miles an hour as it began its eastward run.
Mrs Martha Mabel Dunphy of Boston arrived with Mrs J E Frothingham to face charges of larceny of 6000 in securities and jewelry. Dunphy vigorously denies the charge as she arrives in Chicago for court.
