The Burley Tobacco Society executive committee adjourned after two days of sessions. It fixed prices for the 1907 crop to be set by November 17 and the tobacco to go on sale November 24, urging all types to be sent in promptly to participate in the opening sales. The society holds sizable orders for both the 1906 crop and much of the 1907 crop.
Farmers expect a better turkey crop this year as 13 cents per pound is paid on foot, with some nearby towns reporting up to 35 cents per pound. Official reports note a full northern Kentucky crop and early birds being marketed, while late hatched birds won’t dress in time for Thanksgiving. Many turkeys are thin due to drought and corn scarcity. late market birds will be kept. Toohey Bros. received 1,200 to 1,500 turkeys for the Thanksgiving market.
Fire damaged the stables of the Hester Brewing Company in Columbus on November 12, causing about 30,000 dollars in losses. Four firemen were injured and thirteen draft horses cremated in the blaze.
