Mt Williams air crash costs second life
Ron n ie Ashwood, 1, son of Mr and Mrs Ernest Ashwood of Mt Williams, died at Memorial hospital after a two seater Aeronca crash 15 miles west of Winchester. Pilot Thomas Leroy Cooper also died. The crash occurred Sunday evening near the Ashwood home. Cooper and Ashwood were on a local flight. The plane struck the ground at about 100 mph after a sharp turn.

The CIO Association of Communications Equipment Workers set September 17 for a nationwide strike against Western Electric over wages and conditions. Dan Harris said 25,000 members in 2200 Bell locations across 43 states would walk out, with wages currently from 8 cents to 1.54 dollars per hour and a 15 cent demand already rejected.
