A county campaign address denounces the Hoover administration and the Smoot-Hawley tariff as harming farmers, reducing foreign trade, and boosting unemployment. Speaker cites 1028 economists opposing the tariff and predicts Democratic gains in key states.
Princess Giovanna and Czar Boris III wed in Assisi as rain and hail drenched many royals. The ceremony inside St Francis basilica was brief and followed by a visit to the tomb of St Francis. Queen Giovanna wept at times, recovery sparked by roses from local children.
Evangelistic services will be held in the Assembly of God at Cameron and Boscawen streets beginning tomorrow and continuing throughout the current week. The Rev. A. H. Hintze and wife of Norfolk Virginia will be in charge with meetings nightly at 7 30 o clock. Cordial welcome extended to all to attend. Lawrence M. Guthridge was found guilty of selling liquor to John Lamb and a companion near Market Street. He received a $118 fine and three months in jail, with an appeal noted to the Corporation Court in November. His alibi defense was rejected due to prior convictions and witness relationships.
An nunc pro tunc order confirms R. Frank Barr as trustee of Braddock Street Methodist Episcopal Church South replacing the late J. W. Whitlock. Barr had been elected by the quarterly conference on December 17 1924, with court approval now recorded. The court also approves J. W. Crider as trustee succeeding the late M. T Reed.

Elizabeth Coffman, the first woman bank employee in Virginia charged with embezzlement, and an accomplice, a 42 year old assistant cashier, were sentenced to prison after auditors traced shortages at the defunct Bank of Dayton in Dayton, Virginia. Coffman confessed to embezzling about 36 929.37, later reduced by errors.
Beginning Monday evening at 8 oclock and continuing through the following Sunday evening there will be special services at Cedar Cliff Presbyterian Church in Vaucluse. Rev Mr Rogers of Tuscarora W Va will preach. Everyone is cordially invited to attend these services.
Next week marks Girl Scout week in Winchester with a Sunday service at Christ Episcopal Church. On October 26 at 7 30 o clock all troops will meet at the parish house and march to the church for the Court of Honor awards. Friday is Girl Scout day at home and a hike to a woods cabin is planned for Saturday if weather permits.
Staunton Va Oct 25 The Shenandoah Valley Association of Moose Lodges completed organization at a meeting on West Beverley street with delegates from Lexington Roanoke Covington Winchester Waynesboro and Charlottesville. Officers named are President James Sipolski first vp W L Radford second vp H T Warren secretary W F Rittenour treasurer E E Harmon prelate C P Hollis. Next meeting set for Waynesboro in December. By laws adopted and Staunton lodge provided refreshments.
Washington October 25 Chairman Jouett Shouse of the Democratic National Committee forecasts the 1930 election results. He says the campaign is advanced enough to estimate the November 4 outcome and predicts the seventy second Congress will have a Democratic majority with Democrats needing about 54 Republican seats and a minimum of 60 in that category.
The Amerian Red Cross local office reports new subscribers to the 1930 roll call. Names include Olive Story, Mrs M B Richards, Miss Groves, Opal Robinson, Eleanor McCartney, Kathleen McCartney, Mary J Gray, Marion Chauncey, Elsie Preffitt, Elsie Duncan, Mary Boxiey, Bessie Corkey, Beulah Cline, Marguerite Daugherty, Mrs Robert Y Conrad, Bobbie Conrad, Lily H Baker, Mrs Andrew Bell, Edith Cornwell, Lena Payne and others.
Citizens from Winchester plan to attend a Democratic mass meeting and rally at Front Royal High School Auditorium tonight. Principal speakers include Judge John W. Fishburne, Democratic candidate for the U.S. Congress, and H. F. Byrd, former Virginia governor. The event is hosted by the Warren County Democratic Committee and aims to be the region's largest political meeting of the 1930 congressional campaign.
