Lawrence M Guthridge a former Winchester police sergeant was arrested today on a charge of selling two pints of illegal liquor to local workers. He is being held at the police station for trial expected either tonight or tomorrow morning. Guthridge served for several years before being dismissed by Mayor Julian F Ward who said the move was for the good of the service.

In Richmond Virginia F H Garber 33 was found dead after police arrived at the Williamsburg road home to learn his wife and 7 year old son had been seriously wounded. Investigators believe Garber shot them then killed himself. Garber suffered leg infection from World War I service. His wife said he acted strangely yesterday.
The Red Cross will hold a rummage sale tomorrow morning in its City Hall office on the second floor beginning at 9 30. Mr and Mrs H F Peake of Great Neck NY are guests at the George Washington Hotel.
The Winchester Frederick County Red Cross drive gathers pledges with many local names on the first contributor list. Donors include Major and Mrs. John H. Flood, Caroline T. Hunter, Mrs. R. W. Burns, Mrs. Edgar Hogan, Miss Gertie Miller, and numerous other residents and families as the $1 or more appeal continues.
Harry F. Byrd will deliver eight speeches over the coming week for the Democratic ticket. He teams with Judge John W. Fishburne for a kickoff at Front Royal and speaks in Southwest and Southern Virginia and two West Virginia towns. An automobile said to belong to Morgantown, West Virginia, was wrecked this afternoon about 40 miles southeast of town on the Washington road. It was unclear if anyone was seriously injured. The party was en route to Washington to attend a football game tonight.
