The United States Navy announced that submarines in the western Pacific sank one heavy cruiser and four other vessels, with another probable sinking and two ships damaged. The submarine toll for Japanese shipping rose to 79 sunk, 20 possibly sunk, and 24 damaged, totaling 123.
