Corporal Terrell writes from a hospital about Captain Conrad's death during the drive. He recalls the 29th Division's 21 days of action, aiding a French division on the right, and defeating German troops. Terrell, ill with bronchial pneumonia from contaminated coffee fumes, describes the emotional impact on his company and battalion.

An new face appears at the Empire Theater tomorrow as Mrs Charles Chaplin formerly Mildred Harris stars in K on the screen. The wedding to the comedian occurred October 28 in Los Angeles California. Chaplin has not previously appeared on screen in Winchester.

Water from the Robin son Ice Plant now flows into the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad turntable in the yards. Previously it ran through the streets to Market Street and the town. The change eases street flooding concerns while the railroad repairs buckled tracks and eroded the warehouse track bed.
Sub scribers are urged to call and settle for bonds promptly as delivery approaches.
The First Troop of Boy Scouts will attend Union Thanksgiving day services at 11 in the Presbyterian Church. They march in four corps and carry their flag won in the Liberty Loan drive and allied country flags. After services they return to their cabin southeast of Winchester for an afternoon and night gathering with supper, games, and initiations.
City treasurer William T. Barr warns taxpayers that state taxes are due and a five percent penalty will be added after December 1. The notice also stresses poll tax should not be overlooked and provides date stamps Ip-11-16-20 23 2627 28 29.
London reports Dr Mathias Ersberger, Berlin state secretary and Reichstag member, lauds the martyrs of the German revolution. He foresees peace bread and liberty and urges no spread of Bolshevikism. He calls for democratic reconstruction and adherence to armistice terms.
Senate manufacturers committee hears coal expert William Wilhelm warn that a future anthracite shortage could be prevented only by government seizure of part of Pennsylvania coal lands. He opposes state operation but says government competition would pressure prices. He cites companies paying up to 1.50 per ton on undeveloped tracts, raising mined coal costs. Also a floor register and collar offered for sale at the state office.
The Thanksgiving service schedule notes a 11 o'clock a.m. service at the Presbyterian Church with Rev F M Richardson as speaker. A nationwide day of prayer follows the end of wartime hostilities, expected to draw large crowds in Winchester. Memorial Hospital appeal and store closures are mentioned.
A memorial service for Capt. Rupert Y. Conrad commander of Company I 116th Gallantry, mortally wounded in France on October 9, will be held at 4 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Dr. J. H. Lacy will lead, with a principal address by Mr. LR. Gray Williams and remarks by Dr. Lacy. The public is invited.

He plans Atlantic City visits, discusses apple shipments to England, and hopes for lower rates as freight ships increase. He is recovering from influenza but optimistic about a return home.
