A fragmentary wire story describes a man who tore an American flag during protests in Spain, with references to Barcelona and a Spanish city Sadadell. The text is garbled but indicates a flag desecration incident and related government response.
Winchester ministers push plan for a memorial to men from Winchester and Frederick County who fell in the European conflict. The Handley Library meeting passed a resolution in support but no monument type or design was decided. Further community consultation was planned at a future gathering.
First Lieut. Rochard F. Hatcher of the One Hundred tenth Machine Gun Company in the Twenty‑ninth Division was wounded in heavy fighting in France on October 23. He reports via letter to his wife that he is recovering, walks on crutches, eats regularly, and that his wounds are not serious. He led his company at the start of the battle, 160 men went in and 50 remained standing at retreat.

A telegraphic message from Clearbrook Virginia reports Sergeant J Frank Hinton killed in action October 15 on the western front in France. He joined Company II of Winchester about twenty months ago and was promoted to Sergeant in France. He is survived by his parents Mr and Mrs E W Hinton and two sisters Mrs George W Feltner and Mrs F C Harmon.
American troops entered Prussia and reached Trezes on the Moselle after advancing through Luxemburg. At Trezes German forces surrendered aircraft and air materials under the armistice terms. Major William Thaln of the American air forces accepted the surrender.
