Special to The Star. Edward E. Spats ford, national commander of the American Legion, urges Congress to provide better housing for soldiers. He notes Armistice Day marks cessation of hostilities, not lasting peace, and argues Americans fought to defend home life and ideals while seeking frank contact with other nations to foster understanding.
W F Brown announces store closes early on Armistice Day Friday November 11 with a 10 AM closing time. The notice appears on page 1 column 11.
The will of the late resident of Vaucluse makes bequests to Salem Church and Mount Hebron Cemetery Company for missionary and perpetual care funds. It also wills 200 acres for life to his daughter Esther Thomson, with a 100 acre fee interest via a codicil, and the remainder to Mrs Thomson. Executrix is Mrs Thomson with Attorney M M Lynch assisting.
Warren county official results show Warthen elected treasurer over S Byrne Downing by a 144 vote majority. Totals were Warthen 821 and Downing 667, with Warthen defeating Downing who previously ran against him in 1923 when Warthen led 852 to 624.
Berryville Virginia November 11 The Lloyd Williams Post American Legion continues its annual bazaar to fund the community building project. A parade offers 125 in prizes for best decorated car and most unique costume. An afternoon and evening show features the Army film Powder River at the Colaco Theatre. Services are planned at Meade Memorial Church on November 13. Local residents and notable moves include transfers, visits, and a birthday party at the Middle Road home of Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Smith. A for sale notice lists modern and antique furniture and is signed by Mrs. Eugene Davis.

Hurricanes struck Cuba and nearby areas. fires hit Haiti and Porto Rico. floods hit Mexico and Yugoslavia. earthquakes occurred in Japan Azores Armenia and Albania. refugee aid operated in Bulgaria Syria and China. The Eleventh Annual Roll Call runs November 11 to 24 seeking 5,000,000 members.
A new anti-depression restaurant opens in Piccadilly London to lift gloom on foggy days. Glowing golden walls and alabaster globes create warm light, silver papered walls reflect dull orange and green hues, blue sun carpet, apple-green furniture, and shimmering green curtains. A jazz orchestra will enhance the cheerful atmosphere.
London attendees at the Shoe and Leather Fair in Islington view new calfskin footwear treated to resist stains. The display promises dyes that remain permanent and will clean easily with a damp cloth, claiming London mud and soot pose no threat to light colored leather assets.

The Mississippi Valley flood relief period saw 21 emergencies from April to June, including 11 tornadoes. At one time the Red Cross operated in 14 disasters simultaneously, aiding about 17,000 people in a single tornado. Four hundred students at Cudahy High School in Milwaukee suburb Cudahy Wisconsin walked out at the first bell to protest the dismissal of Superintendent EB Seifert by the school board last night. Seifert, who had 11 years of service, was ousted amid a controversy over the new board elected last spring and its economy program.

The S V A squad has improved since its last game versus Augusta Military Academy and rivalry promises a hard fought contest.

Election officials canvassed Tuesday results in Winchester and Frederick County. The abutting property amendment failed 130 166 in Winchester and 205 229 in Frederick. A. R. Rinker won Gainesboro district justice of the peace despite not appearing on the ballot. About 560 votes were cast from a nearly 4 000 registered. State Senate candidate Wright 247 Winchester 548 county and Denny 253 Winchester 553 county, both Democrats, faced no opposition.
