Mrs Lucy Virginia Rohr died Sunday afternoon at 3 80 at her sister Miss Alice Hardy’s West Boscawen street home after a three year illness following a paralysis stroke. Born March 3 1848 she was 79. She leaves son Archie Graham Rohr of Atlantic City a sister and two brothers all of Winchester. Funeral plans pending from Martinsburg arrival of her son.

Winchester Girls Athletic Club members completed a 30 day hiking challenge closing last night. Miss Margaret Kelchner led with 510 miles. Miss Janet Rinker was second with 408 miles and Miss Adele Metz third with 204 miles. All over 100 miles earn a gold letter A, with prizes from local merchants and future swimming meets planned by the club.
Mrs. Rosalie Talley Hopkins seeks a partial divorce from William E. Hopkins in Frederick County Circuit Court on desertion grounds. She claims uncertainty over his status after he allegedly deserted in 1916 and hears he may have died in Shippensburg Pennsylvania, while noting four children and her support of them since their 1904 Berryville marriage.
AP reports that a cloudburst struck Prestonburgh and surrounding towns killing about twenty people. In Johnson county three drowned when a home washed into Toms Creek. Five more deaths occurred in southwest Virginia and eastern Tennessee from wind and rain.
Hodgson and Brown jewelers showcase a clock on West Water Street featuring Handley graduates. The hour hand points to boys, the minute hand to girls, and the clock will run until it stops. The student whose picture the hands settle on will receive a wrist watch at Handley School finals in June by Supt. Duffey, drawing many spectators already.
The Associated Press reports Shanghai on May 30 that in response to a Nationalist advance in Tianjin province British authorities will send a battalion of troops to northern China. The unit is expected to be stationed at Tientsin.

Frank Lockhart led the 600 mile race at mid distance with Bob McDonough second and Peter Kreis third as a record crowd watched. Multiple crashes hurt drivers including Henry Cohlert Jules Ellingboe Norman Batten who remained at the track after Batten’s car burst into flames driving to safety.
Mrs. Morgan Smith of Mount Hebron Cemetery offers a $100 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person who dug up and carried away several rare roses planted at her husband Dr. William Morgan Smith’s grave site. The plants, brought from a foreign country years ago, were transplanted to the grave and disappeared after Sunday. The reward was published in The Star.
The Sunshine Club of the M. EB. Church South will meet Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock at Mrs. H. Benner's home in Stephenson. Assistant hostresses include Mrs. John Bush Mrs. J. W. Crider Mrs. Murray D. Mitchell and Mrs. Charles R. Keeler. Car owners asked to meet at 2 30 p.m. at the church to transfer riders.
