Calvin Brill, yesterday convicted in Corporation Court of illegal liquor possession, is not employed by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad as an engineer or in any capacity, according to a statement by the company. The report noted Brill as an engineman, but the railroad flatly denies any employment in that role or elsewhere. Brill had reportedly worked as a hostler on various divisions, including at the jointly operated Winchester station during World War I government controls.
The Robert Y. Conrad Post of the American Legion held a luncheon with guests Mrs. B. B. Dutton and Mrs. Myrtle White. Ex-Commander Rosenberger proposed sending earth from local soldiers graves to France to rest on those buried there, collected by a freighter at the Paris convention.
Harry Moore and John Shafer of Shenandoah county Va were found guilty of stealing an automobile tire gasoline and other articles from E V Weems Jr farm south of town by Justice Tavenner in the county magistrate court today. Each was sentenced to six months on the roads. Moore pleaded guilty and said Shafer was along. Shafer denied knowledge but received the same sentence.
Four members of the Winchester Gun Club hosted a Thursday practice shoot amid brisk wind. Ollie Pitcock led with 47 breaks, followed by A Seabright 46, R T Jones 43, and W Willie 22.
In Fredericksburg Virginia a crowd of about twenty thousand gathered for the formal opening of the Jefferson Davis highway between Richmond and Washington. Governor Harry F Byrd cut the ribbon at Pohick near 10 o clock marking the last completed section amid fair skies and a warm sun.
Fire began in a restaurant on the first floor of a Dock street building in Salisbury Maryland at noon. By 2 pm the blaze had spread beyond the original building threatening the lower business section with parts of the first and second floors used as a garage and auto sales storage area.
John Lillis was tried in police court for reckless driving after his car hit five year old Hazel Thomas on South Kent Street. Witnesses testified to high speed before the incident. Lillis was found guilty, sentenced to six months on the roads and fined 100 dollars and costs, with an appeal noted. The child suffered fractures to both thighs and head injuries but was reported improving.

Floyd W. Puffinberger of this city was arrested on a bigamy warrant by Sheriff Pannett. He admits a second marriage after a claimed divorce obtained by his first wife, and says he wed Mildred Meadows in Hagerstown on March 20. He faces arraignment before Justice Tavenner today.
About two hundred fans watched the Inter Club League opener at Handley Grounds as Elk and Rotary squads battled to a close 10 innings. Darling ton left after being hit in the fourth, Taylor backed the Elks to victory with strong relief, Fansler pitched well, and Baker’s timely hit produced the decisive run in the final frame.
Will Hays reports the Presbyterian Church drive has raised 15,045,000 to fund a pension plan for retired and disabled ministers missionaries their wives and orphans. He likens the effort to a march to the sea by 30,000 laymen from the Atlantic to the Pacific and says it could mark a new era of ministerial poverty protection.

Captain William R. Snodgrass a well known retired key conductor of the Pennsylvania Railroad died at his Martinsburg West Virginia home after a week of illness of airemic poisoning. He was 63 and survived by sister Miss Emma Snodgrass and brothers M A and R L Snodgrass all of Martinsburg. He served for years on the Cumberland Valley Railroad route between Winchester and Harrisburg and was a familiar Winchester resident and friend to many in the community. The funeral will be Monday at 3 PM from his home conducted by Rev F M Woods with interment at Green Hill Cemetery.
