Handley High School Cadet Corps will stage its annual inter company drill Friday June 3 at Handley Stadium. Company A starts at 2 30 pm, then Company B repeats maneuvers, followed by awards from Hodgson Brown and the school organization.

A six hour clash outside Hillsborough jail in Tampa ended as 100 National Guardsmen used machine guns and tear gas to quell a mob of about 2000 seeking B F Levins. Nine men and two women were wounded as the crowd breached walls and officers fired. Levins allegedly confessed to killing Herman Merrill and his family.
An unknown aircraft was sighted about 450 miles north of the Azores while heading east. No other planes were reported in the area. Comdr Francesco de Pinedo remains at the Azores, and Aero Digest’s Frank Tichenor suspects a military plane launched from a warship for night maneuvers.

Henry, in his third term on council, is weighing the decision urged by friends.
Washington reports indicate military experts urge extra forces to shield foreign lives and property in Tientsin and Peking amid fears of northern collapse. A separate plan notes the US may move the Peking legation toward the coast if disturbances in north China worsen.

Hagerstown Maryland plans to sell one million dollars in 414 percent water bonds due serially from June 1 1953 to 2002. The city reports a population of 35 200 and assessed value of 36 500 000. Total bonded debt with the new issue is 5 058 000 of which water debt amounts to 2 425 000.
The national council of Congregational churches adopted the law enforcement commission report pledging support to the Anti Saloon League to enforce prohibition as the best plan for church driven civic action and reaffirmed confidence in Wayne B Wheeler.
