Memorial Day Traffic Death Toll Forecast

VFW Buddies Poppy Sale Totals $532 in Winchester

Commander Kern announced the local VFW post raised 532.33 dollars from the Buddy Poppy Sale held in Winchester on Saturday. Ernest McIntyre chaired the drive with help from the VFW Auxiliary led by Mrs. Raleigh Easter and Mrs. R. M. Adams and the Girl Scouts. Adams sold 67.59 dollars worth of poppies.

Frost last week killed millions of farm plants but the Niagara County farm bureau reports apples suffered the least damage in the Niagara fruit belt. Experts say crop may be a touch late but apples should remain strong with Lake Ontario moderating the cold. Four Area Fires Over Weekend Reported

Four weekend fires were reported in the area none serious. A chimney blaze at Allen Bond Sr Apple Pie Ridge Road was fought with an Indian pump and later rekindled by hot bricks. O Sullivan Strike Enters Third Week

The URCLPWA labels charges against three O Sullivan Rubber workers as phony as the plant strike enters its third week. Arrested were Lewis Pollard, Paul Gillespie, and Walter Painter for rock throwing at neighbors on May 22. Bonds set at 1000 dollars each. Pollard faces an additional right to work warrant.
