Few World War era veterans are able to travel to the Confederate veterans reunion set for Shreveport next month. General Homer Atkinson plans to attend with perhaps five other Virginia survivors, citing age and distance as barriers. Pension rolls across 12 southern states show about 3,608 veterans. Virginia lists 528 in 1935 and 395 currently, with other states showing slight declines. General Harry Rene Lee expects about 750 attendees for the June 8 to 12 gathering.
