The event runs through Friday with participation by John S. Scully Jr national Boy Scout committeeman and C B Hartman scout commissioner at a national Scout conference in Atlantic City. The Chalfonte Haddon Hall Hotel hosts sessions that continue until Saturday.
Sam Orndorff from the Oranda neighborhood was killed when his car overturned near Wheatfield last night. Neighbors heard the crash but no witnesses or definite identification were available. he was reportedly employed by The Washington Lime Company.
The drive to enforce city auto license tags continues with 32 people fined $3.50 each in addition to the $5 license fee. The roundup began Monday morning and expands to include traffic code checks. Officers warn bicyclists and distribute ordinances against riding on sidewalks and two riders on one bicycle. Virginia’s 1935 motor fatalities reached 839 up from 746 in 1934, a 12.4 percent rise while total accidents grew 3.3 percent to 10,863. Pedestrian and non collision deaths drove the increase as excessive speed and wrong side driving accounted for many fatal crashes. Property damage totaled $1,108,157 for 1935.

McElroy Jr the vice president of an automobile finance firm was shot and critically wounded at a country home near Emporia Virginia by J J Harding a middle aged wholesale grocer from Emporia. Harding surrendered to authorities and was released on bond for a preliminary hearing next Monday. Mrs McElroy accompanied the wounded man to Memorial Hospital in Richmond where doctors described his condition as critical.
At the Fourth District United Daughters of the Confederacy meeting in the George Washington Hotel, delegates urged a $300 contribution from the Virginia Division toward Stratford maintenance. Mrs. Catherine Whitham sang with Miss Virginia Cover Russell, and Handley Glee Club performed. The district accepted a May meeting in Front Royal and endorsed turning Manassas Battlefield into a National Battlefield Park under state oversight.

Funeral services for Mrs Obella Clarke will be held tomorrow at Christ Episcopal Church in Winchester at 12 30 PM with Rev R B Nelson officiating. She will be buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Washington DC beside her husband General H Francis Clarke. Rev Dr E S Dunlap will conduct the grave service. She lived 35 years in Winchester and died at 97, a Kentucky native and niece of President Zachary Taylor. She knew many famous figures from history and politics. Her only son Col Joseph Taylor Clarke predeceased her.
The Clarke County Centennial Commission seeks a charter from the State Corporation Commission to sponsor the county's 100th anniversary celebration. Ralph N. Dorsey of Berryville serves as president, with A MacKay Smith vice president Archie F. Robertson executive secretary and Julian Glasscock treasurer. Directors include Dorsey Smith Lloyd Byrd Levi Kackley Carr and Joseph.

Work began on rebuilding the Norfolk and Western highway bridge over the Shenandoah south of Front Royal using flood relief funds. A temporary low water bridge on Route 55 between Strasburg and Front Royal is under construction and due by Saturday. Skyline Drive retaining walls are being built by fifteen stonemasons and helpers from Front Royal to Panorama, with Martinsburg Pike progress and $94,000 allocated to finish the six miles to the West Virginia line, bids postponed until July 1.
