Off Monterey Bay a 10 000 ton freighter rammed and cut the steam schooner Howard Olson in two before dawn, killing three crew members and leaving two missing. Rescue efforts by Marine Leopard Waterman tug and Coast Guard cutters saved 22 Olsen crewmen and recovered one body and one survivor. Six Hospitalized After Weekend Area Auto Accidents
Six persons remained hospitalized after a weekend of area automobile crashes. Eight others were treated and released with no serious injuries. The first crash occurred Saturday at 2 10 p m on the Cedar Creek Grade near town. Mary Loy and her 18 month old daughter Mary Jo were among the injured. The Loy car, a 1951 Chevrolet driven by Clarke E Loy, went out of control and threw the baby from the vehicle. Both were taken to the Friendship hospital. Mary Jo’s clavicle fracture and concussion were noted. The baby was later released. Mrs Loy was reported in good condition. Police continue investigation.

Head-on Auto Crash Kills 7 in Pennsylvania and Ohio
