Dulles Says Soviet 1.2 Million Cut Won’t Reduce US Power
Secretary of State Dulles warned the 1,200,000 Soviet armed forces to be cut over the next year would not lessen Soviet military power. He noted the United States has reduced its own forces by over nine million since WWII and urged confidence in Western strength while recognizing the Soviet move as a possible sign of nonviolence. He also suggested the cut may reflect Moscow’s manpower needs for industry and agriculture.
